Analysis of Undesirable Events as an Instrument of Risk Management in the Workplace

Abstract

Through their work for the employer, employees provide the conditions necessary for sustaining their own lives and those of their families. Any deterioration of health or reduction in working capacity leads to a change in living conditions, affecting both
the worker’s quality of life and the functioning of the family. The manner in which risk is managed and the level of risk is monitored during the performance of work activities represents the foundation for achieving occupational safety and health. In order to establish an instrument for identifying and controlling factors that influence the level of risk, this paper applies the method of analyzing adverse events. Identifying the causes that may trigger the occurrence of adverse events, in the form of accidents or incidents, forms the basis of risk management. One of the effective approaches is conducting a thorough investigation of the adverse event, which contributes to the development of a culture of prevention. This paper emphasizes the importance of identifying causes and providing explanations of phenomena that influence changes in the level of risk during work, from the perspective of a detailed and comprehensive analysis, supported by a strategic and methodological approach to investigating adverse events.
