Abstract

Bank profitability is a fundamental issue for owners and a key topic for the financial system. Measuring the banking sector’s profitability is a specific task due to the business and the type of products they offer. Synthetic indicators of the bank’s performance are used for this. Profitability in Serbian banks is positive, lower in crisis periods, and concentrated in a few banks (Intesa, Unicredit, OTP, and NLB). In the new bank strategies, profitability shoud be based more on digitalization and ESG products. The analysis is significant for economic policymakers, managers, and researchers.
